Case Study: Launching a Scholarship with Statewide Impact
Strategy: KC Projects developed and executed the concept for the inaugural Sheltering Scholars scholarship program on behalf of Apex Roofing & Restoration, designed to support and recognize outstanding Alabama students. Officially launched on April 7, the program attracted 104 applications by the May 27 deadline. KC Projects managed every stage of the initiative, from building the campaign strategy, drafting press releases, and creating promotional graphics to coordinating media outreach and social media campaigns. The team also led the full evaluation process, narrowing the pool to the Top 20 finalists before Apex conducted a blind review to select five recipients. To maximize visibility, KC Projects secured an on-air interview with Apex President Tim Burke on CBS42, activated schools and community partners to spread the word, and planned and produced the July 17 awards ceremony, ensuring a meaningful celebration for recipients and their families.
Results: KC Projects positioned Apex Roofing & Restoration as a community-first organization while delivering strong visibility across Alabama. Media placements in outlets such as Roofing Contractor Magazine, Hoover Sun, CBS42, Birmingham Business Journal, Shelby County Reporter, and Gulf Coast Media generated more than $50,100 in PR value. The CBS42 feature alone delivered a 3:50-minute televised segment, amplifying the program’s reach. Social media content and grassroots engagement further strengthened awareness of the scholarship and Apex’s commitment to giving back. Most importantly, five deserving students were awarded $7,500 scholarships, empowering them to pursue higher education and brighter futures. What began as a first-year initiative has already made a meaningful mark in the community, with the potential to evolve into a signature annual program that deepens Apex’s impact and legacy of service across Alabama and beyond.
